Definition of Collateral Loans

Collateral Bonds and other types of loans are sometimes backed by assets. Bonds that are backed by property are called mortgage bonds. If the collateral backing the bond is in the form of another security then they are called collateral trust bonds. If the collateral backing the bond is equipment then the bond is called an equipment obligation bond. Equipment obligation bonds are common among firms such as railroads where the equipment can easily be sold.
