Tort is the Latin word for twisted. In law tort refers to a wrongdoing under Civil Law and is not a crime which is a Breach of Duty to society in general. Many actions can be both crimes and torts however prosecution for crimes is mostly the responsibility of the state. Tort can be defined as personal injury or a civil act other than breach of contract against a person.
